How does a pre-order work?

It’s the first time we’re doing a pre-order on one of our batches and we are very excited about it. If you don’t know how it works, we’re here to tell you!

We are all familiar with the negative impacts that the fashion industry is increasingly having on the planet and people. The price of clothing has continuously dropped since the turn of the century and we now own 5 times more garments than our grandparents did. But something’s got to give and, in this case, the production costs - including workers’ wages and manufacturing processes - are the things being cut down.

Hence why, the fashion industry has become the second largest polluter in the world, second only to the oil industry. Toxic fertilisers used for cotton plantations; polluted wastewater being poured into bodies of water that we depend on for our survival; the majority of our clothing ending up in landfills or being incinerated, with some synthetic fibres taking up to 200 years to decompose… these are only some of the problems that are caused by this industry on a daily basis.

Win-win situation

As we are already a conscious small family business, we are always thinking about new solutions to make positive changes to the industry and that’s why we came up with a way to bring the amount of overproduction down to zero, by setting a specific number of pyjamas that will be manufactured for the new Batch N.2 and making them available to pre-order.

We think it’s a win-win situation in terms of producing less waste, lowering our production costs in a justifiable way - since we can invest more in the research and use of sustainable materials, we can reach a high quality standard that stands the test of time and also work with manufacturers who can assure their workers a living wage and good working conditions. In that way, we can also offer our garments at a more affordable price compared to high-end luxury brands and assure the legitimacy of our production processes.

But how does it work exactly?

After sitting at the edge of our chair in anticipation of the new batch, it is finally here and for the following 3 weeks you will have the chance to purchase it at an exclusive pre-order price. At the end of the 3-week launch period, we will start producing the batch and will keep you updated via email until it safely reaches you between the middle of July and the beginning of August.

After initially going through a careful selection of manufacturers. we have made sure to only work with trustworthy producers all based in Europe. We trust them with every single stitch and they are regularly visited by a member of the family who oversees the production process. To make a batch of pyjamas in a slow-fashioned way, it takes a total of 2 months (Press here to read more about them.)

Once the pyjamas sets are up and running and every stitch has been carefully checked, the orders are ready to be shipped. Each one of the sets will be hand-packed by Tom’s lovely mum and numbered from 1 to 325, which is the total amount of pyjamas available in this batch. Every shipment will come with a personalised card designed by Tom and handwritten by his mum in one of the 5 languages they know.

"Patience is a fundamental part of our brand's DNA"

In such a fast-paced world and with people constantly on the move, we think that it takes longer to do things well, especially when it comes to clothing. We know 2 months might seem like a long time but there is a viable reason behind that: your order is the actual starting point of the garment production. Unlike most fast fashion brands - whereby garments are produced months in advance and in an unlimited number, which then leads to an extensive amount of waste - we will wait for orders to come in and only then we will start with the production process. Once we reach the limit of 325 sets, we will then stop the production. Once the orders are filled, it takes 5-7 weeks to turn the fabric into a limited edition batch and then it takes another week for them to be delivered to the Tom Àdam studio in Latvia, where Tom’s mum has the precious task of hand-packing each order and writing a customised note for each customer. Finally, a week later, your orders will finally be sent out to you with love from Latvia and your pyjamas will be ready to start their new journey with their caring owners. Do 2 months still sound like a long time? Then keep in mind that you will own a long-lasting garment of which you will know every little detail and there will only be 325 in existence in the world, including your pair.

From now on, we will be shifting to the more conscious approach of pre-order. We are looking forward to launching more products made for you by you.
